Rochester RazorSharks Repeat as Premier Basketball League Champions
CREZ Basketball Systems would like to congratulate the Rochester RazorSharks for winning their second straight PBL title with a 152-115 win over the Battle Creek Knights whom led the PBL with a regular season record of 18-2. Rochester finished up their regular season with a record of 17-3 which earned them a #2 seed going into the playoffs.
With a 2-1 series victory over the Manchester Millrats in the semi-finals the RazorSharks looked ready to defend their title. They ran into the top seeded Knights as they defeated the Wilmington Sea Dawgs in a 2-1 series victory as well. Therefore, the teams with the two best records were ready to meet in the PBL Championship game to determine who really was the best.
Rochester came out firing when only three minutes into the game RazorSharks forward Sammy Monroe shattered the backboard with a devastating reverse dunk! After the 45 minute delay play resumed and the highlight seemed to spark the RazorSharks for the rest of the game. Rochester put together a few runs throughout the first half forcing Battle Creek back on their heels and went into the half leading 76-59 led by 2009 PBL MVP Keith Friel who led the RazorSharks with 17 points at the break.
In the third quarter Rochester continued to widened the gap creating a 37 point lead at one point as they switched to a 1-3-1 defense that seemed to stifle the Knights. Battle Creek showed a lot of heart as they started the 4th quarter with a 13-0 run but in the end the RazorSharks were just too much to handle and finished the game back up by 37. The final score was 152-115 and was played in front of 7,119 fans.
